June 2013, Outpost Cave Creek. Note: this was a letter sent to the Truth but it seems so fitting, we are posting it into the blog as part of our editorial opinions. Thanks for your input. Contact us at: editors@sonorantruth.org.
I’ve always told people that the Zombie Apocalypse would come one day. I figured it would start with growling, teeth-gnashing, blood thirsty hoards coming over the hills from Phoenix. We all know that Zombie hoards start in the big cities; that’s why I moved to Cave Creek and built on high ground with a roof deck and good fields of fire.
I was surprised that the Zombie Apocalypse seems to have started with a lone Zombie. I was at the Cave Creek Town Council meeting a few weeks ago and saw him sitting in the second row; right in front of Terry Smith. The Zombie had the requisite loose clothing and was wearing a wide-brimmed camouflage hat for additional disguise. He appeared to have been dead at least two weeks as judging by the pallor of his skin. The funny thing is he appeared to be fairly quiet and reserved and was using a camera to take pictures of the proceedings. He didn’t really interact with many of us humans, although he did speak to a few. How could they not know that he was no longer one of us? My thought is that he might be the Zombie leader due to having one or two additional IQ points than his followers.
Based on everything I’ve read about Zombie behavior, this was quite strange. The scary thing to consider is why he was studying our form of government. Is it possible that the Zombies are going to try to conquer us through some weakness in our system of government, instead of just tearing us apart limb from limb and eating our brains. This would defeat all of the defenses we’ve prepared.
On June 10th, the Zombie switched his behavior and sat in the first row, but once again nobody seemed to recognize him for what he was. Finally on June 12th, the Zombie leader (yes, at this point I am considering him the leader) actually spoke in front of the assembly. That confirmed it! He was a Zombie. Although there seemed to be words coming from his mouth, they reeked of death and evil. He tried to use his fetid breath to poison both Council people and citizens, not just once, but twice. Luckily, there appeared to be no immediate casualties or turnings, but who knows what will happen the next time he rears his evil in a closed room.
I guess we need to change our strategy and keep watch for more Zombies infiltrating our government meetings. I’d hate to think what would happen if they turned some of our own kind against us with promises of survival after the Apocalypse.
Marshall Stein, maybe you should coordinate with the Department of Zombie Defense (www.departmentofzombiedefense.com) to see if they can help us up here in case we get overrun. [Editor- the Truth believes that Stein is a Zombie so I doubt if he’ll be much help. Lots of staff in Town Hall are Zombies].
Remain vigilant….more to come……
